Ry Cooder is a one-in-ten-million player and writer. Check his movie scores--The Border, Alamo Bay, Paris, Tx. In 1985, Cooder valued his soundtrack work higher than his solo albums. Don't know his current feelings on the subject; he has made what I think even he acknowledges are some pretty special solo albums.
I have a few of his solo records, really enjoy them, should have known he'd have so much depth to his thinking about music. Will check out the soundtracks. Great series of posts on him. Must have been very cool for you to connect with him at different times over a long span.
Great stuff, great insights. Looking forward to reading all the parts. Ted Gioia sent me your way, and I'm glad he did.
